Chambourcin on display

On approach to the cellar door is our Chambourcin block, taking pride of place along the drive into the winery.

Chambourcin is a French Hybrid variety that was
'..developed in France in the late 1800's by French Scientist Joannes Seyve, who gave it the hybrid number JS 26-205. The first 'commercial' wine from this grape, according to Jancis Robinson, was as late as 1963. It was/is common in the Muscadet region of the Loire and is now popular in the mid-east USA..'*

Chambourcin proved popular in America due to the compatibility with humid-to-frosty coastal climate of North America. Notably particularily mildew mould resistant.

Due Chambourcin's versatility it is no wonder that Chambourcin caught the eye of Aussie grape growers, infact today it is believed to be the most used French Hybrid in Australia.

It was for this versatility that when researching suitable varieties to grow on the Port Stevens Peninsula that Tony chose Chambourcin to grow at Divers Luck, in which time it has thrived and is the base olend for our signature red MAD DIVER. We also have a Rose made from Chambourcin, and a Sparkling (Champagne style) wine made from Chambourcin.

Although we don't sell the grapes for eating, each year we delight in eating the grapes once they are ripe, they are even more delicious than Muscatels to eat.... only downside are the many seeds..
